What Metal Inspires You?

OK since I hate empty spaces (and Im assuming this is what this part of the forum is for) I'll start this discussion XD

I'd like to know, for all the members not just the band, what songs or bands have inspired you or got you through something really tough or that you just really really love.

My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage got me through a really tough time a few years ago. Its a great heartbreak/metal song, really heavy stuff but also with a sense of serenity (a word which is actually used twice in the pre-chorus) to it.

Bands inspiring me.

The bands inspiring me the most are:
- Iron Maiden, the gods of metal
- Epcia, Best Gothic-Metal band in the world if i may say so
- Ayreon/Star One/Ambeon (Arjan J Lucassen), best composer and genious guitar work
- Pain Of Salvation, Weirdest composers in the world and a million of style changes

Hope these bands will help you ;)
Also have the names of some great clasical composers if you like ;)

Greets from the netherlands (PMR)

Stay Metal n Cheers

Whenever I'm doing artwork

Whenever I'm doing artwork I'm always listening to some form of metal music. It has helped in keeping me focus and not come to a stall. Apocalyptica is what i listen to mostly though I do listen to other metal bands. Also death metal at times. Slipknot is what I listen to mostly when I draw things of a biblical taste. For some reason I can really get going when listening to that.

Slipknot makes some awesome

Slipknot makes some awesome music...although sometimes I feel they put more effort into showing off than the music itself

I'd say for me it would be

I'd say for me it would be Dream Theater. They produce some of the most legendary Metal pieces, especially from their recent Systematic Chaos album. I love the way Dream Theater have the full spectrum of Rock and Metal under their belts, anything from a blissfully soft ballad, through to bleak, turgid style of heavy metal, as well as everything in between. When i want to relax, I listen to Dream Theater.

I also like Manowar, Dragonforce and Apocalyptica.

I like the way you think.

I like the way you think. Dream Theater is absolutely fantastic

I have to admit, I'm partial

I have to admit, I'm partial to the NWOAHM. I've been listening to American Metal since '95, and hadn't really touched European stuff until '01. Since then I've been in love with Melodic Death Metal bands In Flames with Colony/Clayman/Whoreacle and Soilwork in '02 with Natural Born Chaos. Just in the past two years I have gotten into Power, Symphonic, and Progressive Metal. I really love Dream Theater, Kamelot, Cradle of Filth's Midian, and some American Metalcore bands.

To be honest, it's mostly Kamelot now. I'm seeing them on the 9th!
