History of Epinikion

Prologue

"Epinikion" means the song of triumph in Ancient Greek. And this is also a name of power metal band that rose in the heart of legendary capital of Kievan Rus at the early autumn of 2006. Three old friends, musicans all, joined their forces to create the best power metal album about the historical period of Kievan Rus. Their aim was to show the beautiful legends about heroes and events of that time to the english-speaking listeners and rise patriotic feelings of their fellow countrymen. Nine songs were composed, elaborated and recorded in two different language versions: english and ukrainan, during the year. Talented ukrainian artist Alex Buryak made all the artwork for the young but ambicious project and painted the fantasy-style portraits of Epinikion members. Besides, experienced designer Natalya Postnaya made the dragon logo. That was the beginning of the long story.

Chapter I

During the recording of the songs, the first version of the band's official site was created and English-language version of the completed album was placed there, waiting for it's listeners. At the same time, Epinikion music was uploaded to myspace and last.fm servers aimed to reach the metal fans throughout the world. Everyone was able to download all the songs for free, listen to them and leave the opinion about it. After that, Epinikion members, Elder Scrolls game fans all three, prepared the cover of their favorite game soundtrack theme - "Reign of The Septims" and sent it to it's author Jeremy Soule, asking for his permission to share it via Internet. The answer of maestro was warm and encouraging so cover version of the Oblivion main theme started conquering the hearts of metal fans and excited gamers. A lot of thankful letters were received by the band, when the Ukrainian version of debut album was uncovered and was met even warmer than previous one. It was the time, when conception of brand new album started to appear.
